This is an enjoyable mainstream jazz session from 1955.(These and his other recordings from the mid 50s are available under his name on the "Complete Roost Sessions".) I'd never heard of Powell, but he seems to have had a long busy career with big bands (Goodman, Herman), studio sessions, television work, singers etc. In the late '60s and early '70s he played with Gato Barbieri and Dizzy Gillespie, even adding "sweetening" to one of Albert Ayler's "rock" records. A very versatile musician, he played on soul music sessions with Groove Holmes & Billy Preston and was backed up on his own recording in 1973 by Bernard Purdie and Cornell Dupree. An amazing career...
