I could never find affordable copies of the original LPs Hip Walk or Happy Girl , or the "Two Originals" CD of this music , so thanks for posting them !
Just looking at the personnel I knew these were going to be something I would like , and I am not disappointed . Davis' playing seems more informed by Rollins than Coltrane but he is not completely in their shadow . The flute and soprano playing add extra musical color to the albums . Nothing wrong with Carmell Jones , but I prefer Woody Shaw . Best track for me is " That Kaycee Thing" . Davis plays with intensity and soul , bassist Woode swings hard , and pianist Boland has a fine solo . Love it !
Wish this music had been posted in FLAC format :)
