LANE Vicky 1959

For the fun, the liner notes presenting the 5th marvel of the singing world!: Right off the bat it might seem to take a medecine show pitchmanto offer a newcomer in her charter exposure for contention with America's veteran vocalists. Tell the Misses Lee, O'Day, Christy et al: move over. Either that takes a signal temerity or else it requires valid explanation. And one's forthcoming: in a day when debuting singers are at an average age formerly associated with secondary school glee clubs, Miss Lane is -and it is refreshing to be able to say this- la femme de trente ans: a mature artist from an allied field who is a newcomer only in that she is newly persuaded by a small but non knowledgeable circle of friends to expand the audience for her exiting voice to include the whole record-buying public.
Possibly it is because she is mature enough to know her own mind -and her own voice- that this is uniquely her own date. Miss Lane choose all her own tunes, which is not commonly the case with the new singers.... and it goes like this on an other column but we don't learn more about who Vicky Lane is !

What I learned is that Candoli and Lane were married at the time of this recording. Maybe we know enough now !

Vicky LANE 1959 I SWING FOR YOU

Pete CANDOLI tp, Barney KESSEL g, Jimmy ROWLES / Johnny WILLIAMS p, Joe MONDRAGON B, Alvin STOLLER dr and 6 percussionists.

Funny, this is one of the singers I looked forward to listen to and disliked. A few years ago it was released as CD in Spain. I no longer have that CD and cannot remember how she sounded. Possibly I did not like something about the arrangement.

Well--not every album can be a winner. This is my least favorite singe so far ---but I do like one song on the album--You Hit The Spot.

I agree with you, Kiken. I purchased the Spanish release of this album several years ago at Tower Records in Times Square. The cover is wonderful but I find it oddly painful to listen to.

The xylophone rules. Some songs on this album are almost comically arranged. Fast paced and frenetic. I find the album quite funny but couldn't listen to it all the time.

definitely a tougher listening experience! sadly, her voice is not as good as her legs, wow. still, there are a couple of good tunes here and once again , obscure stuff, thanks daniel.
